The following is the class outline:

In the course of a one-day workshop, participants will begin by learning how to create the basic framework needed for business
promotion. This includes

Identifying Business Goals
Ask five different artists what the definition of success is, and you’ll get five different answers.  We all have different ideas as to what
constitutes artistic success.  Some artists believe it is when sales reach a certain level.  Some believe it is the quantity or prestige of
awards, while others may measure success by attaining educational degrees or teaching positions.  The common definition of
success is, quite simply “achieving a goal.”  But before you can attain success, you must first define what success means to you.  In
other words, you need to define what your ultimate goals are.

Setting a Course of Action to Achieve Goals
When finished, your plan will be a customized road-map showing you all the steps that you need to follow in order to achieve your
success, starting from where you are now.  It will serve as a guide to allow you to monitor your progress, and help you to identify any
areas of your business that need additional planning.  Your plan is your guideline for the future of your business.  Once you create
it, all you have to do is follow it to success.

Creating a Marketing Plan
Successful business marketing is achieved through a combination of public relations and advertising.  Effective marketing is
planned, with goals identified and steps outlined to achieve those goals.  Without a plan to follow, marketing can be haphazard, with
missed opportunities and advertising dollars spent ineffectively.

Writing and Designing Promotional Materials
Create a resume’, bio, and artist statement that grabs attention!  Write press releases and cover letters that make your readers
want more!  Design brochures, postcards, and other promo items that convey your professionalism and commitment.

Pricing Artwork and Artist Services
Several variables factor into art pricing; level of the artist recognition, experience and credentials, market demand, the geographic
area, the artistic mediums, and more.  Learn how to develop your own formula that will ensure pricing consistency and maximize
sales.

Sales and Customer Service
Artists also have to be effective salesmen, and need to know how to conduct sales.  This includes dealing with different types of
customers, negotiating, and closing the sale.  Tracking clients and maintaining contacts, and basic contract tips.
