Artist of the Month
Each month, at regular Slidell Art League meetings, the Slidell Art League holds Artist
of the Month
(AOM) competition. Any SAL member may participate in AOM competition
by submitting a piece of their work. At the end of the year (the year runs July - May),
points are tallied from each month's competition and the artist having the highest
cumulative total points is declared the Slidell Art League
Artist of the Year (AOY). The
Master AOY holds a solo show of his or her work for two weeks in the SAL Gallery.
Apprentice AOY shares a two week show with the SALT AOY. The AOY Show dates are
predetermined by SAL. The following are the rules for submission into SAL's AOM
Competition:

* All work is to have been completed within the previous twelve months and has Not
previously won 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the AOM Competition. All artwork must be an
Original work of the participating member.

* Attendance at the membership meeting is required to participate in AOM Competition.
Each member is allowed one excused absence where artwork can be dropped off prior
to the meeting and still be included in the competition.

* Information needed PRIOR to competing in AOM Competition:
  •  Signed agreement to competition rules.
  •  Short biography to be used as needed by SAL publicity chair.

* 2-D Artwork:
  •  Cannot exceed 50 lbs.
  •  Glass or Plexiglas must cover all works on paper.
  •  All pieces must be framed and matted or gallery wrapped.
  •  Any work to be entered into AOM Competition must be dry.
  •  Any work to be entered into AOM Competition must be clean.
  •  All work must be completely prepared for hanging with picture hanging wire
    securely attached.

* 3-D Artwork:
  •  Cannot exceed 100 lbs.
  •  Any pieces requiring assembly must be handled by the artist.
  •  Display pedestal will be provided by SAL. The artist is responsible for securing
    their work.

* AOM pieces must be submitted no later than 6:45 p.m. on SAL regular meeting nights.
Votes are picked up and tallied at 6:55 p.m.

* Members can compete in the following two categories as determined below:
  •  Master Level includes any artist who has won Artist of the Year in the past 5
    years, and/or consider themselves a professional artist.
  •  Apprentice Level includes new artists, artists who consider themselves non-
    professional, students and artists that have not won any major juried shows or
    competitions.
  •  Placement in one of the above is determined by the artist, but SAL has the
    authority to promote as needed.

* AOM is selected as followed:
  •  All MEMBERS in attendance will vote on both the Master & Apprentice levels.
  •  Membership present will vote for their top two choices by placing their choices
    on the slips.
  •  Each slip will have a "1" and a "2" on it.
  •  Each "1" vote receives 2 pts.
  •  Each "2" vote receives 1 pt.
  •  Votes are tallied and the artist having the highest total votes shall be declared
    AOM - with subsequent high totals placing 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention.
  •  A ballot/slip having only one vote marked on it will NOT be counted.
  •  In the case of a tie, the artist with the highest number of "1" votes shall receive
    the higher placement.
  •  If the number of "1" votes is equal, a member of the board will draw out of a hat.
    The name picked out of the hat shall receive higher placement.

* Any piece entered into AOM Competition, but not placing, may then be entered into
the current show if the artist so desires. Standard fees apply.

* A piece may NOT be taken down from the previous show and then submitted into
AOM Competition. We require that you wait a minimum of 30 days following a SAL
exhibition where the piece has shown to enter that piece into AOM Competition.

* It is the responsibility of each winner to get their display card from the Gallery and
exhibit their winning entry (no substitution of artwork) at the assigned location on the
first of every month. Artwork must remain up for the duration of the month. Failure to do
so will result in loss of points, loss of awarded position and artist will be prohibited
from participating in AOM for 3 consecutive months.

All artwork must display the information card provided by SAL.

* It is the responsibility of each winner to pick up their pieces from the assigned
locations on the last day of the month. Failure to do so will result in loss of points, loss
of awarded position and artist shall be prohibited from participating in AOM for 3
consecutive months.

* As a SAL sponsored project, 25% commission will be taken. Please price accordingly.

* AOM Awards/Display Locations:

Masters:
  •  1st Place - St. Tammany Parish Library, Slidell Branch - 555 Robert Boulevard
  •  2nd Place - Slidell Memorial Hospital - Gause Boulevard
  •  3rd Place - The Beignet Station - Slidell Train Depot - 1827 Front Street
  •  Honorable Mention - Ribbon

Apprentice:
  •  1st Place - Whitney National Bank - Olde Towne Slidell - 2065 Front Street
  •  2nd Place - The Beignet Station - Slidell Train Depot - 1827 Front Street
  •  3rd Place - Barbara's Victorian Closet -- Olde Towne Slidell -- 124 Erlanger St
  •  Honorable Mention - Ribbon
