Membership Info
The Slidell Art League is an incorporated 501(c)(3) not - for - profit corporation (Tax
ID: 72-943422). Founded in 1962, the Slidell Art League is one of the oldest
recognized non-profit organizations on the Northshore. With over 200 local artists,
our members share their talent, time & creativity with the community.

The following are a few of the community outreach programs that your membership
will help support:

Gallery Exhibits–SAL hosts five art exhibits yearly in its Gallery, including an
opening reception that is free & open to the public. Four of the exhibits are open to
all area artists to submit works. The fifth is a members-only show, although the
exhibit and reception are free & open to the public to view.

Our Part Thru Art (OPTA) was developed to serve children & adults in the Parish
who otherwise would not have the opportunity or means to participate in the arts.
Through art, SAL members help participants strengthen & enrich themselves.
Special efforts are made to include those with physical, emotional & financial
challenges. OPTA classes are held at the Council of the Aging St. Tammany
(COAST), to residents/patients at Greenbriar Skilled Subacute & Rehab Center,
Trinity Neurology Rehabilitation Center & Slidell Senior Citizens Day Care, a facility
for Alzheimer’s patients. These visits encourage imagination, use of color and form,
and the social interaction with SAL instructors & patients make life more enjoyable.

Slidell Art League Teens (SALT) - SAL members work with teenagers throughout the
Parish to develop their artistic skills, strengthen their self-esteem and encourage the
importance of community involvement & volunteer-ism. These young people
volunteer their time & talents at many community events-face painting children.
They are also encouraged to exhibit their art in the SAL Gallery and are invited to
participate in the Saturday workshops.

Out & About with SAL was developed as an outreach project to take art into the
community to share with those who would not have had the opportunity to
experience art in any other venue. Community Outreach Exhibits currently
scheduled: Heritage Festival-Heritage Park (July 4th), Villa Du Lac Apartments
(August 2007), Arts Evening - Olde Towne Slidell (Nov. 2007), Slidell Memorial
Hospital-Healing Through Art (January 2008), Louisiana Philharmonic Concert-Art in
the Park (May 2008), Heritage Festival (July 2008) Artist of the Month Outreach
Locations: St. Tammany Parish Library-Slidell Branch, Parish
National Bank, Beignet Station-Slidell and the Slidell Memorial Hospital. SAL has
also partnered with the City of Slidell to provide monthly exhibits featuring local
artists & art organizations. Admission to the museum is free. Artist receptions are
held monthly so the community can meet the artist and/or the art organization. They
are also free & open to the public.
