Our Part Thru Art (OPTA) was developed to Serve children and adults in the community
who otherwise would not have the opportunity or means to participate in a wide range
of art activities. The mission of the Slidell Art League members is to support those who
hope to strengthen, rebuild and enrich themselves through art. Especially those with
physical and emotional challenges.
INSPIRE:
One of the most impressive results of artistic exposure is inspiration. Every person has
creative energy. With guidance from trained teaching artists experienced in extracting
it, inspired participants enjoy expressing themselves freely.
The "OUR Part Thru Art" program is presenting the following on a monthly basis:
- Partner with local hospitals to offer 1 - 2 hour art or craft classes to children and
elderly.
- Work with local Social Service Agencies to offer alternative activities to their
clients.
- Work with the elderly at local Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, and Senior Citizen
Groups to offer art classes such as drawing, pastels, watercolor, mixed media and
clay.
ENRICH:
The OPTA program offers situation sensitive sessions customizing all projects to
individual abilities and interests. SAL trained members have offered their time and
energy to give of their talents and compassion. The funds raised through donations
pay for ALL MATERIALS and necessities of the program.
ARTISTIC THERAPY:
Our program enlightens and inspires new and renewed skills in creating. It stimulates
muscles, minds and spirits. Each presentation is a fun-filled relaxing pleasure in the
lives of our participants. Teaching artists are received with delight, excitement, eager
cooperation, and gratitude from our students. We all have a lot of fun and often, tender
moments. We are Always asked to come again.
The Slidell Art League is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that supports local artists
and their work. They opened a studio in December 2000 and changed the art scene
community. The SAL members have generously donated art to various charity
fundraisers over the years and now ask for your assistance. They have developed a
unique program designed to enhance the quality of life for citizens who do not have the
opportunity for creative art experiences.
